It is incredible to think how far first-person shooter gaming has evolved over the years. It all started with Battlezone in 1980, but the big game changer was Doom released in 1993. To play it now you would question the dodgy controls and questionable graphics but back then it really put FPS on the map.
We’ve gone a long way since then with Duke Nukem, Half-Life, Quake, Halo and Call of Duty bringing use into the 21st century with amazing weaponry. But, with the number out there at the minute, how can the genre evolve positively? The key is creativity. Cult gaming classic title Metro 2033 will be available to purchase on the Xbox Live Arcade from the 16th of October, at a reduced price. Metro 2033 will actually be half price to buy until the 22nd of October.

Two new trilogy game sets are making their way to Sony’s PS3 this November. First up we have the Mass Effect trilogy. Mass Effect 2 and 3 were both released on the PS3 but, the original Mass Effect game that started it all off was an Xbox 360 exclusive and as of yet has not been made available to PS3 owners. Come November 7th however, you will now be able to finally play the first Mass Effect game. As well as making the game available in this trilogy box set, the game will also go up on the PlayStation Network for download. The launch coincides with the first annual “N7 Day”, which is a worldwide celebration for the Mass Effect franchise. Two new games from Sega will be heading to your Xbox 360 or PS3 very soon. Sega have announced two of their games from the ‘SEGA Heritage Collection’ will be arriving on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Arcade very soon. Both Sonic Adventure 2 and NiGHTS will be available for download on PSN on October 2nd priced at $9.99 each. While 360 users unfortunately have to wait a couple of days longer. Both games will go live on October 5th for 800 Microsoft points.
Sega have also announced that NiGHTS will include Christmas NiGHTS content in the price, while Sonic Adventure 2 will get DLC in the form of Battle Mode for $3 on PSN and 240 Microsoft points on XBLA. Read more

Game recently entered administration and today they have closed 277 of their 610 stores nationwide. The figure includes Game stores and Gamestation stores and in some areas all stores have been closed. The Game Group have been having a hard time lately and it doesn’t look to be getting any better. Game has been unable to stock many new titles including EA’s Mass Effect 3 and many other suppliers have also refused to do business with Game.
Game has now had to file for administration as they need to raise £180 million, £21 million of which is for their quarterly rent bill. Around £40 million makes up their debts to suppliers.
Despite the gaming industry being the UK’s largest entertainment sector in 2011 with sales passing £1.93 billion (videos and music making £1.8 and £1.07 million respectively), Game haven’t been ale to turn their fortunes round. Read more
SSX may be the last EA title Game and Gamestation stock. It has been confirmed that Game will not be releasing the highly anticipated game due to supply issues. For those who per-ordered the game, you will have the chance to have £5 worth of rewards points added to your Game loyalty card. Unfortunately it looks like Mass Effect 3 isn’t the only title that Game won’t be stocking with other titles like Fifa Street or Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 also looking unlikely to be released through the Game Group. It’s not long until EA’s SSX is released but, for those of us who can’t wait any longer (myself included), an SSX demo will be released tomorrow 21st February for Xbox 360 and for PlayStation 3 users in North America, while other countries will see the demo later in the week. The demo will let you play as Zoe and Mac will be unlockable through a referral program but, the details on that are yet to be released.
