There seems to be a growing perception that in an increasingly digital world, traditional methods of entertainment are falling by the wayside. In other words, we’re too absorbed in our computers and smartphones to bother with good old fashioned fun. Sometimes complaints about this shift are as simple as someone muttering that kids never play outside anymore, and sometimes they come in the form of a more thorough analysis of the state of human amusement. For instance, a piece at Medium titled “Why Can’t We Read Anymore?” recently took a pretty dire look at what’s happened to human concentration.
Well, it’s about time. EA have announced that the next iteration of the popular football video game FIFA will for the first time include womens international teams. We will see players from teams from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Sweden and the United States of America in Fifa 2016.
Current England Womens team captain Steph Houghton was on hand to celebrate as she will be featured in the game herself: “To be one of the first female players included is something we’ll always be able to look back on. Hopefully it will help raise the profile of the women’s game even further”
With the rise in popularity of Womens Football over the past few years, it’s great to see EA take the initiative and include the girls in a game that is undoubtedly a male dominated sport and game genre. You can take a look at a demo below showing the virtual women players in action: Read more
With the announcement of the next generation of consoles from Sony and Microsoft in the form of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One respectively, there has also been quite a bit of discussion surrounding the pricing of games on the next consoles. Currently new releases for the PS3 and Xbox 360 generally cost around £40 from most retailers. With the Xbox One however, games will cost a bit more.
Microsoft have priced the games on their website at £49.99 and include titles such as Dead Rising 3, Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse and Kinect Sport Rivals. However in the US, the pricepoint between 360 games and Xbox One games remains the same at $59.99 which seems a tad unfair to those not living Stateside as us UKers were already paying more than our US counterparts anyway with this generation of games. Currently Fable 3 is on offer on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Normally the digital download costs $19.99 for the full game download. Today the game has been spotted as free. There’s no indication of how long this offer will be on so you should be quick to download it. You will need to be an Xbox Gold member to download the game for free though and 48 hour trials do not work according to reports.

To play it now you would question the dodgy controls and questionable graphics but back then it really put FPS on the map.
We’ve gone a long way since then with Duke Nukem, Half-Life, Quake, Halo and Call of Duty bringing use into the 21st century with amazing weaponry. But, with the number out there at the minute, how can the genre evolve positively? The key is creativity. Maybe you prefer strategy pc games where outcomes change and it isn’t a generic storyline that you can predict. Read more
