The annoyances of being a ‘Girl Gamer’

Since joining up here and interacting with several other girl gamers, I have learnt that I’m not the only female who can sit and play a game for hours on end and enjoy that feeling of accomplishment when you finally finish a game.  It’s common knowledge that the gaming industry and all things game related is a mans world.  But what I’m writing about today is how being a girl gamer can sometimes cause problems when playing online.  I’ll also be sharing afew of my experiences of being a girl gamer.

Celebrate Christmas Gamer Style!

As we all know, Christmas can be a really stressful time. Presents need to be bought, decorations need to be hung, food needs to be prepared and visiting the family needs to be arranged. Yes, it’s a time of the year that you either love or hate, but for gamers, it’s a time to bash those buttons and yell in those headsets because Christmas gaming is a time to get merry and have some fun.

Attention girl gamers in the London area!

I’ve found an interesting gaming event for female gamers.

As part of the annual ‘London Games Fringe’, a week long gaming event, the London Metropolitan University is hosting a day exclusively aimed at girl gamers to kick start the event.

During the day, there will be 5 different games to play; Wii Tennis, Tekken, Unreal Tournament, Kuri Kuri Mix and Mario Kart.

There will be five winners at the end of the tournament for each game, but there will only be ONE overall champion.

This is the first girl gaming tournament in London, as part of the London Games Fringe.

If you’re interested, then sign up at GRL GMR Tournament but hurry as there are limited places available. The event is free and family and friends are more than welcome to come with you.

Hope this may be of interest to anyone?

Halo 3

Okay, so last weekend I FINALLY got up to major grade 2.

Moments later

I jumped with joy and humped the air like some horny teenaged loser. I called my husband and told him I finally did it, and then played for 5 hours straight after that.

Two days later

I downloaded the new patch with the new achievements and was totally excited. I then got online and noticed that my rank was gone, I looked at my service record and saw that it was still there before I started pulling my hair out.

I then played lone wolves and saw that people who were lower ranks than me now had higher ranks. I wondered to myself wtf this was.I looked at Bungie.net…they told me it was this new “True Skill”

Soooo I thought to myself….”So now everyone is on an even playing field”…so this entire year of Halo I have been playing, dreaming to get to major grade 2 means nothing now?

So I know this is a stupid thing to get mad about, but I sat around for about 3 hours being pissed about this.

Am I the only one who is totally mad about this? Am I just being a weirdo?

Light Cloud in korea part 3

this weekend was the biggest national holiday in Korea, Shushok (not sure how its spelt), a time where people hit the road in the millions to go home and pay their respects to there family.

Korea is pretty closed during that time as everyone is going home so i had left to go to seoul for several days ending on sunday (the main day of shu-thingo). took a flight from the small airport here and had a pretty bumpy ride, i dont mind it but the guy near me was in panic mode.

this time was at a hotel in the business district, so some pretty average food type places around… however hotel made some good pizza so i was happy, although a little sick from going overboard on the pizza.

2nd day there spent the entire day in the electronic district, pretty damn awesome place… i think by the end of the day i only was in one of the big buildings but so much there, floors each with different catagory of gadgets and things. so easy to spend ages if your a GG. price was pretty good because of all the different shops of the same type right next to eachother. but they all see pretty happy to help eachother too as with a few different stores i needed something they didnt have so they went to another shop to pick it up for me.

tv dvx box with 500gig hdd, upgrade for mini laptop, portable dvd burner, portable HDD and a sony media player later and i was done for the day.

subway is nuts by the way, easy to get lost and english isnt a really big thing in some parts of korea so gotta make sure you have a map and  a plan.

day 3 was spending a day in the shopping areaishy thing, streets of people and mainly clothes and resturaunts but lots and another place to spend a day.

day 4 was day of everything being closed but went for a walk in a big tome/park area just behind the hotel, beautiful and luckly open. funny seeing a park surrounded by huge buildings… really not many parks in seoul.

another pizza later and off to the airport to go back to SaCheon.

exhausted after all the walking, so today and im pretty sure tomorrow too, ima going to be resting.

hope everyone is doing well and peace out from South Korea for another week!

sorry no pics this week, will add some when i can.

Light Cloud over Korea part2

this week was more of an everyday week, went for run to park up the hill then around a lotus pond, some food shopping and looking at some more traditional markets… little old ladies everywhere i might add!

from all their bending ect, alot of them walk always bent over which is sad to me. but life goes on and they im sure would be use to it by now.

took a trip up to the top of a mountain here in SaCheon which has a small temple. really beautiful place, to get their you need to take a car but the path is just big enough for it, plus its all windy up the side of the mountain, looking down. im sure the taxi driver was having fun ^^

the temple is right in the middle of the peak with forrests of bamboo surrounding, overlooking the other mountains and clouds. just really id picture such a temple to be. not only that but the monks there dont get many visitors and so its remained very buddhist in nature without going into the money gaining attitudes of so many here.

Light Cloud in Korea, adventures of a traveling gamer~

packed my bags and ready to go.

suitcase check, dont need many clothes as im not all that fashion concious and korea
has alot of cheap clothes :P

carry on lugguage check, the important things: psp, ds, laptop.

now for people who havent traveled much, just a warning, do remember to buy
power converters for all your gadgets and if you have gadgets from different
countrys make sure you get all of them, because some countrys you will find
very difficult to find them. luckly international airports carry the wide range so
check that out!.
