Default A guide to making 32-bit icons for your PSP

This tutorial is for those of you who have had experience making your own icons in 8-bit for but now want to make them better in 32-bit form.

And one more thing before we start. This guide uses PhotoShop but I'm sure it'd work on Gimp etc.

The one I'm using is my music icon.

(Once on the PSP the background wont be seen.)

First you need the picture of the icon you want to use which you can easily make in PhotoShop. Next open a new image in PhotoShop with the following dimensions (64x64).

Make the background color black.

Now copy your image over to the 64x64 sized image and resize it so it only takes up 62x62 of the image.

Duplicate the layer and in the new layer go to Image > Adjustment > Hue/Saturation and change the settings as follows:

Now you should have an all white version of the icon in the duplicated layer.

Hold down Ctrl and click on the thumbnail of the duplicated layer.

You will notice that your selection gets outlined.

Now right click and select save selection and enter the following settings when prompted.

You can now delete the duplicated layer.

If you look to the top of your layers window and click on the tab labeled 'Channels' you will see 4 standard channels followed by the selection that you just saved called 'alpha 1'. It will be invisible and you should leave it like that. it will still work.

So now click on image>mode>indexed color... and enter these settings

Now again got to image>mode but this time select RGB color.

Choose save as from the file menu and then BMP form and press enter then from the manu choose 32-bit mode.

Now just change your icons to RCO and flash them.

So this ends my tutorial, I do hope it helps you and good luck.

hi...pretty new and just found this awesome tutorial..one question , i followed all directions and got it fine but i always end up with a bmp with 300 colors and rco editor tells me that only 256 are allowed.
is there a way to get around this or reduce the colors without loosing quality...i dont know how to exactly reduce the number of colors.
thanks and please help me.
